A Roadmap for Structural Change
Since the public emergence of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, artificial intelligence moved in a very short time from an exploratory technology to a daily component of journalistic work. The initial conversation gave way to a deeper question: what role does AI actually play in the craft and in the life of newsrooms.
Its incorporation puts pressure on editorial processes, redefines professional roles, modifies production routines, and forces a revision of longstanding criteria around authorship, accountability, verification, and the value of journalistic work.
Read the full introduction →Artificial intelligence does not transform newsrooms on its own. It is people, processes, and editorial decisions that determine its real impact.
Methodology
The guide was built on a process of research, analysis, and direct experimentation with Ibero-American media organizations.
Review of more than 90 editorial AI policies from media organizations around the world, from the BBC to Chequeado.
Real-world tests and projects in newsrooms such as Clarín, Todo Jujuy, and 0221 during 2023–2025.
Reuters Institute, JournalismAI, WAN-IFRA, INMA, Nieman Lab, and organizations such as the Council of Europe.
Conversations with journalists, editors, and media executives from Argentina and across the region.
Seven Chapters in Three Movements
Each movement brings together chapters united by the same editorial logic. Foundations that build the conceptual framework, integration that organizes adoption in newsrooms, and application that shows where and how these processes are already taking shape.
Any serious AI integration begins with understanding what it is and what it does: an ordered history of the technology and an ethical framework built on more than 90 editorial policies.
After understanding what AI is comes the decision of how to integrate it: a roadmap for organizing adoption and its impact on editorial roles in the newsroom.
How the relationship with audiences is changing, what newsrooms that already integrate AI are doing, and what tensions remain open for the next cycle.
